The Best Part of Halloween
To be honest, I’m not overly fond of the “scary part” of Halloween—the intimidating witches, vicious vampires, spooky ghosts, anorexic skeletons, and all the blood and gore. Also, I’ve never been a fan of the “trick or treat” mantra and its implication that if a homeowner doesn’t have anything to give, they may get tricked.

But holy creepy creatures, I love Halloween candy. I can eat my way through this special occasion with little thought about the repercussions. With its arrival, bags and bags and bags of all kinds of sweet treats line the shelves of supermarkets and retail establishments long before the actual date. I’m certain the candy manufacturers do a happy dance as they ratchet up the production lines to meet the sugar surge demand of kids all over our great nation.

My favorite is candy corn flavored M&Ms. I buy a couple of bags and hide them in the cupboard so that I can enjoy them long after the ghouls, ghosts, and witches disappear into the night. I’m also a chocoholic. This year I understand that Dove will have orange and black foiled dove dark chocolate pumpkins. And let’s not ever forget the peanut butter cups and KitKats that come in bite size pieces.

As Halloween approaches, what are your favorite sweets and treats? Come on now, be honest. This isn’t a trick question!

Take a Sneak Peek at "Sweet Kiss"
Blurb:
Hard-working Kate Clark opens a thriving coffee shop that quickly becomes the local hang-out for students and the community. Her one wish is to eventually buy out her sister’s share of the old Florida home they inherited. However, Violet is in desperate need of cash and has other plans.

Tappe Vanderberg, Kate’s childhood friend and high school sweetheart, has sold his lucrative internet security business to return to Little Heron Shores and fulfill his dreams of owning a marina. Now the handsome Dutch-born businessman is making waves with single women all over town—including loony, post mistress Eva May Poole who’s in search of husband number three.

But it’s Kate Clark who’s wreaking havoc with Tappe’s heart, not Eva May. Can he find a way to shake the dingbat post mistress and convince Kate to give him a second chance and the sweet kiss he remembers from an earlier time?

  1. Judy Ann, I'm not a fan of Halloween in regards to the 'haunting' aspect either (see my ABA post on my blog), but I do enjoy the treats. I'm not a big chocolate eater, but Halloween is one of the few occasions I indulge in a Kit Kat or Aero bar :)

  5. I love Halloween because it's the opening day of Eating Season, which doesn't wrap up until midnight on New Year's Day. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are my favorite, ever since they discontinued those long, braided Marathon Bars a couple of decades ago. Happy Halloween!
