                                     "Writing for a Box Set"
When the opportunity to write for a box set arose, I jumped on it with enthusiasm. I'd participated in a number of series in the distant past for my publisher, both as an author and an editor, and missed the experience of working in the team atmosphere. In my former lives as a nurse and an advocate for victims of violence, the work was exhausting as well as rewarding. I can't say I loved every minute of it, but none of it could ever be termed a success without the efforts of the entire team--either in the OR or in the criminal courts building.
Probably the most important aspect of a team is, in my opinion, when each member utilizes their particular strengths for the good of the whole. With regard to All In For Love:
One of the Lucky6 arranged a mind-boggling blog tour, then put it all down on an easy to comprehend spread sheet. As of this writing, she's doing something called a Thunderclap. For me, who recently mastered the art of opening attachments, I'm amazed at this woman's abilities.
Another is in charge of formatting. Bless her heart. I wouldn't do that even if someone held a gun to my head.
A third is the all time champ at graphics. Her teasers and photos, combined with a bright, eye-catching blog, Facebook banner and Pinterest page brings me to tears. I possess ten thumbs when it comes to photography; this woman's work, which feels so effortless, takes my breath away.
A fourth member, a veteran in box sets guided us newbies in the process, adding options for promotional ideas as well as dividing up the task list. Most helpful to all.
Another member of Lucky 6 is a wiz, and I stress WHIZ, at tweets and promotions. Again, effortless, mind blowing and tear inducing.
Me? Not much. I'm just sitting back, reaping the bennies.
With this crew there's a million of them.

The authors are offering a give-away to one person who leaves
their name and email address today: a wristlet tote.

Excerpt from Raising Kane by Kat Henry Doran
Lt. Kieran Pollack signs in to work and comes up against the woman of his dreams: Mallory Kane, ace investigative reporter. Unfortunately she's just spent the night in jail and is in no mood to speak with anyone--particularly a cop.
“Anything I need to know before I head upstairs, Sarge?”
“It’s all there.” The night duty man passed him the report from the previous platoon. “The usual pugs, thugs and mugs threw themselves a circus down at The Dirty Dawg last night.”
Kieran scrawled his name on the sign-in roster. “Again? Somebody ought to look into closing down that pest hole.”
“I bet the Mayor is thinkin’ along those same lines. With the Chief on vacation and the Deputy Chief at a meeting out of town, as PIO it’s your job to handle the fallout. Lucky man.”
Fall-out? “What are you talking about?”
A woman with mile-long legs and hair the color of roasting chestnuts strode past the desk, heading in the direction of the revolving door.
“Overnight guest,” the sergeant advised under his breath. “TV Reporter. I was you, I’d head that one off at the pass.”
In addition to a talent for scoping out shapely legs, Kieran possessed the good sense to act on sound advice. After shooting both cuffs and ensuring his tie hung straight, he glided up beside the woman. “Excuse me, miss?”
She stopped, threw back her shoulders, then turned. “Yes?”
In the shimmer of an early morning sun he saw a nasty bruise blossoming across one cheekbone and winced. “Does that hurt as bad as it looks?”
“Who are you and what do you want?”
She possessed a voice designed to make a man think of hot nights and cool sheets. Extending a hand, he launched into his usual PIO song and dance. “Kieran Pollack, Public Information Officer for the Victory PD. What’s a pretty thing such as yourself doing in a joint like this?”
The screech of tires on the street outside obscured any response she might have made. Panel vans bearing the logos of the local TV affiliates disgorged reporters and camera-persons who wasted no time in storming the doors to the Public Safety Building.
Kieran attempted to head her off at the pass with a fast two-step and a faster line of bull. “Look, can you help out this hard working public servant?”
She raised one hand to shield her injured cheek. “Not without my attorney.”
“Aw, now. Why do you want to go and do something like that? We don’t need no lousy lawyers to make things right, do we?”
“I believe it’s somewhere in the Bill of Rights,” she murmured, eluding his out-stretched hand with a fast step to the left.
“Please. Hear me out,” he pressed, one eye on the camera-persons now jockeying for position just inside the doors. “I can make this all disappear―if we could go someplace to talk. It would be to your advantage, I promise.”

MEET THE AUTHOR: Pamela S. Thibodeaux - "Circles of Fate"

I'm pleased to introduce Pamela S. Thibodeaux with her novel, "Circles of Fate." Pamela hails from Southwest Louisiana, just east of the Texas border. She writes inspirational "with an edge" romance, women's fiction, and some spiritual nonfiction.  What does she do to relax?  Like many other writers, reading is her #1 past-time, but she also like to walk, hike, swim, and horseback ride.

Does she ever experience writer's block? In her own words...
"If you had asked me ten years ago, I’d have said a definite NO. However since my husband passed away in 2009, I can honestly say: Yes, I do experience writer’s block. I’ve had many things published since 2009, including a couple of NF pieces in different anthologies, but Keri’s Christmas Wish (Dec. 2016) is the first fiction work I’ve written in its entirety since 2008. Since writing KCW, I’ve gone on to write a few short stories that have not been accepted anywhere, and I’ve started another novella which isn’t moving very well or fast.

Seems to be the norm for me right now, but I am glad I had the breakthrough with KCW and know as I keep healing, the words will once again begin (and hopefully continue) to flow.

BLURB (From "Circles of Fate")
Set at the tail end of the Vietnam War era, Circles of Fate takes the reader from Fort Benning, Georgia to Thibodaux, Louisiana. A romantic saga, this gripping novel covers nearly twenty years in the lives of Shaunna Chatman and Todd Jameson. Constantly thrown together and torn apart by fate, the two are repeatedly forced to choose between love and duty, right and wrong, standing on faith or succumbing to the world’s viewpoint on life, love, marriage and fidelity. With intriguing twists and turns, fate brings together a cast of characters whose lives will forever be entwined. Through it all is the hand of God as He works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

EXCERPT:
“Promise me you’re sure or I won’t let you go."
She would have to convince him or he’d never let her leave. She also knew he’d see through anything less than complete honesty.
“Oh, Todd,” she whispered, her voice urgent. “I wish it were that easy. I’m sure I have to try. But I want you to know something…” She hesitated, unsure how to say what she needed to say. “If things were different, if he weren’t so determined, if nothing was left between us, if I didn’t think there was a chance, I would stay.” Her eyes searched his for some sign he understood.
A ghost of a smile played around his sensuous lips, he nodded. “I know,” he whispered. “And I understand,” he said and gathered her close once more.
She should leave. Shaunna knew Joe waited for her, but was unable, unwilling, to end it, to end them, just yet. She held him firm in her embrace, committed the feel of his body to heart.
“I have to go,” she whispered, then clung, not yet able to turn him loose.
“I know,” he answered and tightened his arms around her. With a sigh of surrender, he stepped away, loosened his hold but rubbed her back and shoulders in a tender gesture.
“Don’t look back,” he whispered then dropped his hands to his side, clenched his fists.
She saw the struggle in his eyes, felt it in her heart, as each fought not to grab hold and cling. They gazed at each other, read the naked truth in each other’s eyes.
Neither wanted to be the first to walk away.
Shaunna touched his face, traced his features…his eyes, his jaw, his mouth. A shiver shook her when he held her hand and pressed his lips to her fingertips.
“I almost wish we had made love the other night.”
Almost?
The word echoed between them like a silent scream. The despair in his eyes slashed her heart another degree. He shook his head, swallowed hard.
“Know this. If we had, you would not leave here today.”
She stroked his cheek, her smile tender, bittersweet. “Take care of yourself. Please,” she whispered then placed her mouth on his.
Lips met on a sigh, breaths mingled on a sob. Each of them committed the kiss to heart, and fought not to cling to the other. With a final touch, a last trembling smile, Shaunna did one of the hardest things she’d ever done in her life.
She left.

MEET THE AUTHOR: Linda Caroll-Bradd - "Bailing Wire Promises" - A Montana Key Kindle Worlds Novella

Bailing Wire Promises
 Entertainers of the West #4

Today I'd like to welcome California Author Linda Carroll-Bradd with her novel, Bailing Wire Promises, Linda writes novels in both contemporary and historical settings with a sweet-to-sensual tone. Although she was born in northern California, she and her husband also spent three years in central Oregon early in their marriage before moving to southern California for her husband to attend college. Later, they also lived a dozen years in San Antonio, Texas before relocating to the southern California mountains in 2012.

What does she do to relax? In her words….
"My favorite relaxation comes when I’m lost in a good book that carries me away to another place and time--writing so good that I can turn off my editor brain and just enjoy. Especially if we have taken our mini-RV out for a weekend, away from being interrupted by tasks related to my husband’s job.”

Let’s find out more about Linda:
Where do you start when writing? Research, plotting, outline, character, etc.?
The first thing I do is start building my characters. I have to know their names and ethnic backgrounds and the bare bones of the conflict. Then I dive into research. I want my historicals as accurate as I can make them and am fastidious about checking when certain items were invented and where, what stagecoach or train routes ran through a particular area, costs of everyday items, what the clothes were like, etc. because each of those details affects the plot. We live onsite where my husband works at a mountain resort camp and are 35 miles away from population centers in opposite directions. So to drive to get groceries (or any errand) takes 30 minutes, and when I travel with hubby, I read a lot of my research during those trips (sometimes aloud) to pass the time.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Getting the dialogue right for a time 130 to 150 years ago is tough. Even reading journals of the era don’t give a true sense, because most of us write more formally than we speak. This is a craft area I’m constantly tweaking.

What book(s) are you reading now?
I’m usually reading a writing craft book to improve my technique and strengthen my skills, as well as a research book. So the titles are: Creating Character Arcs by K.M. Weiland and The Legendary Appaloosa by Cheryl Dudley. But for pleasure, I just finished a medieval paranormal titled Faerie by Delle Jacobs that I adored.
BLURB:Healer Fantine Pomeroy and five children, aged five to eleven years, are the only survivors of an orphanage fire. She vows to transport them safely to another orphanage, and then she can return to her music studies. But she soon discovers the task may be more than she can handle.

BLURB:
Bounty hunter Pete Andrews is beaten after delivering his last bounty. Unsure if robbery or retaliation is the motive, he sets out to lay low and make a visit to his brother in Morgan’s Crossing. Unable to leave them on their own, he promises to get the woman and children safely to the next town. When he suspects his old life has followed him and threatens the group who has become dear, he vows to protect them. But will that be enough?

                                               AUTHOR BIO:

As a young girl, Linda was often found lying on her bed reading about fascinating characters having exciting adventures in places far away and in other time periods. In later years, she read and then started writing romances and achieved her first publication--a confession story. Married with 4 adult children and 2 granddaughters, Linda now writes heartwarming contemporary and historical stories with a touch of humor and a bit of sass from her home in the southern California mountains.
